Turn an ordinary gourd into an extraordinary art piece! Make a gourd rattle at a workshop Sept. 17 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Poppies Art and Gifts. Gourd rattles have been used as rhythm music instruments, often to accompany a dance for rain. They also make great decorative art to hang on a wall or from a fireplace. Artist Linda Steis will lead the class on the back patio at Poppies, 323 E. Matilija St., Ojai. All supplies will be provided but you may bring feathers or beads to decorate your rattle. Choose from an assortment of shapes and sizes of gourds. All are guaranteed to rattle! Each participant will take home one rattle and varnish for sealing your work after it dries completely.
