The next meeting of the Poppies Book Club will take place Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. at an Ojai private residence. In 2023, the club will read banned books. The group discussion is free and open to interested adults. Read the book in advance. Members will discuss “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger. The novel follows Holden Caufield, 16, who wanders in New York City after expulsion from school. The book was banned for profanity and sexual content. Poppies Art and Gifts carries locally made jewelry, photography of Ojai and other places, paintings, pottery, décor, books by local authors, and more. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
